MAY 20TH: A SIGNIFICANT DATE FOR CUBAN FREEMASONRY.

Image
Commemorating and appreciating the historical significance of May 20th is a duty that every Cuban who loves their country's history must uphold. Despite decades of Marxist historiography in post-1959 Cuba portraying the Republic established on May 20th, 1902, in a negative light, using terms like "pseudo-republic" and "neocolony," voices within socialist Cuba have started to reclaim the importance of this date, marking the emergence of Cuba as a Republic on the global scene .      For Cuban Freemasonry, May 20th marked a milestone, the realization of a long-cherished dream. With its core principles centered on building a fairer, more democratic society, and a history of opposing despotic rule, Masonry inherently sees the Republic as the optimal environment for its growth and development. It's no surprise, then, that the fraternity welcomed the birth of the Cuban Republic with optimism and enthusiasm. It's no surprise, given that Masonic lodges w...

Image
The liberal and free-thinking General of the Battle of May 5, 1862..      General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín (1829-1862) is one of the most iconic figures of 19th-century republican Mexico.       Born in Bahía del Espíritu Santo, present-day Goliad, Texas (then Mexican territory), Zaragoza embodied more than just military triumph. He was a dedicated liberal, a well-educated individual with forward-thinking ideas, and, as historical records suggest, a Freemason shaped by the values of liberty, equality, and brotherhood that defined the liberal movement of his era. Liberalism and ideological formation .      Early on, Zaragoza aligned himself with liberal ideals, rejecting authoritarianism and championing secularism, land reform, and the sovereignty of the people..      Se unió a las fuerzas insurgentes durante la Revolución de Ayutla (1854–1855), movimiento que derrocó la dictadura de Antonio López de Santa Anna y dio origen a...

Argentine Freemasonry and the May Revolution of 1810

Image
Argentine Freemasonry pays homage to the protagonists of the historic May Revolution of 1810, which was driven by many of our beloved Brothers at the time and gave rise to the first Patriotic Government, marking the beginning of the independence process that would culminate in July 1816.       Our Order played a decisive role in the events that led to May 25th, as evidenced by the composition of the First Governing Board, which consisted of nine patriots, of whom only one, Miguel de Azcuénaga, was not a Mason.      The work and struggle of our beloved Brothers at the time had been underway for a long time. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Masonic lodges were established in the city of Buenos Aires, such as the legendary "Independence" Lodge, which was founded in 1795 with a Constitutive Charter from the Grand Lodge General of Scotland of France, a historical antecedent of the Grand Orient of France. There, notable figures ...
